Best Keyless Sliding Door Lock For Your Home 2021

Sliding glass doors are the most notorious when thinking about security. Not only are they easy to break into, it is also incredibly hard to find a secure lock for sliding glass doors. Sure, a standard keyed entry lock works just fine. But who likes carrying 20 different keys in their pocket or purse? I have 6 keys on me at a minimum and I’m trying to minimize them now. It’s 2021 and you’d think someone would have come up with a half decent smart lock for sliding doors but nope. There was one showcased at CES2021 with a planned 2021 release date but that has been delayed without any new information for months. The only viable option right now is a keyless sliding door lock.

The problem with sliding doors is that every company makes their own design and each lock is different in its mechanism. Locks that fit Anderson sliding doors won’t fit other companies. Its not practical for lock companies to develop sliding door locks for different mechanisms.

Best for sliding glass patio doors: C150WH Surface Mount Hook Bolt

The C150 is the smallest profile lock in the Lockey lineup. Lockey specializes in keyless entry locks ad this one is specifically designed for sliding glass doors. The compact design allows it to be installed on patio doors, closet doors, cabinets, and even bi-fold doors. Lockey suggests hiring a professional for this installation but we found that anyone with decent DIY skills can manage the set-up. If you are familiar with or are willing to understand how a mortise lock works, then you will be able to install the C150.

You can also lock these doors from the outside by simply turning the knob, but it can only be unlocked by entering the code. The lock works on any sliding door with a stile at least 1.25″ wide and room to mount the receiver. The C150 will work on regular patio sliding glass doors and most indoor cabinet doors but if you have larger sliding doors we would suggest looking at the Lockey 2500.

Pros:

  • Several different finishes to match your sliding doors.
  • Lifetime mechanical warranty.
  • Compact design.

Cons:

  • Lockey recommends professional installation for all their locks.
  • Does not work with double hook design mortise locks.
  • Pin can only be changed by taking the lock apart.

2500SCKA Surface Mount Hook Bolt

If you have large sliding glass doors, the C150 will not be a good option. The Lockey 2500 is a full-size lock with a sliding bar or hook. Since the latch is on the surface of the door instead of recessed into it, it requires a strike plate for installation. Lockey includes a standard 1-inch strike plate in the package but if your doors are on the thicker side you will need to purchase a longer strike plate from your local hardware store. The hook mechanism of the Lockey 2500 rotates to catch on the strike plate when you turn the knob to the locked position. It’s a versatile solution for sliding glass doors and works on most pocket doors, and doors that slide open in either direction.

The installation is pretty straightforward and can be completed by anyone with decent DIY skills. Some customers have complained that the instruction manual included in the package is not comprehensive. You can watch the video below to better understand the process.

Pros:

  • Accepts one passcode of 3-7 characters in length.
  • Fast, do-it-yourself mounting and setup.
  • Several finishes to match your sliding door.
  • Lifetime mechanical warranty and 5 year warranty on the finish.

Cons:

  • Need to take it apart to change the combination.
  • Installation instructions not comprehensive.

Yale Assure Lock for Andersen Hinged Patio Doors

Andersen worked with Yale to develop a keyless entry lock for their doors. It’s unfortunate that they ignored a large segment of their users by not developing a keyless lock for Andersen sliding doors. Instead we were given a slim, beautifully designed – although expensive – piece of engineering in the form of the Yale Assure Lock. It is Bluetooth and WiFi compatible so you can operate it remotely and get notified when the doors are opened or closed. This lock is compitable with the A-Series Hinged Patio Doors, E-Series Patio Doors (March 2018 and newer), Entry Doors and Folding Patio Doors made by Andersen.

Moreover, this lock integrates with Yale’s Z-Wave smart home security systems to provide a complete security solution. You can use the Yale app to auto-unlock, shar entry codes, operate the lock remotely, and view the access history. Very useful if you use another house or part of your home as an AirBNB. The one touch lock-up and backup keypad unlock are very useful in case you do not have your phone with you (although how often does that ever happen).

Pros:

  • Specifically designed to work with Andersen hinged patio doors.
  • Sleek design.
  • WiFi and Bluetooth compatible.

Cons:

  • Expensive.
  • Auto lock does not work if latch is not in the right position.
  • Does not work with Andersen sliding doors.

Double Bolt Keyless Sliding Door Lock

The problem with standard sliding glass doors is that a burglar can just lift the doors off their tracks to gain entry. To prevent this, install a double deadbolt lock to make it virtually impossible for anyone to break in. It is extremely simple to set-up and its slim profile means you won’t add any unsightly bulk to your beautiful sliding doors.

It’s not just burglars that you need to worry about. If you have children in the house, you don’t want them wandering out the back door. This small and cheap device will prevent that from happening.

Pros:

  • Well-built construction.
  • Reasonably priced.
  • Easy to install.

Cons:

  • Doesn’t auto lock.
  • No smart lock capabilities.

FAQs:

  • Can you put a keypad lock on a sliding door?
